Drama club 2026: "Bang Bang You're Dead"
Every year, the team behind the Slovene language drama group at Gimnazija Vič select a play to be their main event in the school calendar. For 2026, the decision was taken to perform “Bang Bang You’re Dead”, by the American playwright William Mastrosimone. Through the play, we explore the issue of school violence, particularly within the context of the United States, where access to firearms remains a pressing concern. Rather than portraying the protagonist, Jure, as a villain, the author presents him as a kid shaped by societal pressures and psychological struggles which ultimately lead to a tragic act.
The production was brought to the stage by our drama club with Maša Macedoni as the director and Žiga Regina from our school’s PE department as the project mentor.
The process of putting the play began in September with auditions that were less about selection and more about exploring our abilities and potential. Rehearsals started soon after the roles were assigned. We met regularly on Wednesdays and Fridays, along with several intensive weekend rehearsals. Throughout this period, the performance gradually took shape through collaboration, dedication, and creative development.
The performances were fantastic for everyone involved with audiences including students from our school and members of the public. The feedback was excellent and we are happy that we were able to put across an important and emotional story.
We are also grateful to Mija Šuštar who acted as photographer for the project as she caught several of the key moments from the performances to help us remember them for years to come.
